Hello, and welcome to Kids Riding Bicycles, a blog that has nothing to do with children, bicycles, or children who ride bicycles.
So, why the name? Well, as you may know from my other website, From Director Steven Spielberg, I’m rather keen on the works of Steven Spielberg. He directed little-known art picture E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and that film featured a bunch of kids riding bicycles.
Underseen though it is, E.T. sparked a range of similar movies in which kids come of age during adventures they undertake on their bikes, and so the image of a kid riding a bicycle has, for me at least, come to symbolise a unique blend of light and dark, innocence and evil, joy and sadness. In other words, a melancholy I find quite poetic.
And cool. Really, really cool.
So on this blog, you won’t find anything about child-rearing or greasing your bike chain. But you will find thoughts about films, comic books, music, and anything else that tumbles out of my head, up to and including shyness, the awesomeness of dogs, and that cat down my road that looks at me funny.
